About Yaniv
Yaniv Nahon is a trial attorney who focuses his practice on immigration law and criminal defense, two areas that increasingly overlap and that, for many of his clients, cannot be handled in isolation. A former Miami-Dade prosecutor who has tried dozens of cases to verdict, Yaniv brings real courtroom experience to every matter, whether he is arguing for a client’s release before an immigration judge or defending against criminal charges in state or federal court.
Yaniv represents individuals and families across the country in removal proceedings before the immigration courts.
On the affirmative side, Yaniv guides clients through adjustment of status applications, family-based petitions, VAWA self-petitions for survivors of abuse by U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident family members, and other pathways to lawful permanent residence.
Yaniv’s criminal defense practice draws directly on his years as a prosecutor. Having evaluated, negotiated, and tried misdemeanor and felony cases from the State’s side, he understands how prosecutors build and assess their cases, and he uses that perspective to identify weaknesses, pursue favorable resolutions, and prepare for trial when trial is the right course. He defends clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges in Florida state courts and represents clients charged with federal offenses in federal district court, guiding them through every stage of the case, from initial appearance through plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing.
Where the two practices meet is where Yaniv’s experience is most valuable. For a noncitizen, a criminal case is never only a criminal case: a plea that appears favorable on its face can trigger mandatory immigration detention, bar eligibility for relief from removal, or make deportation virtually certain. Because Yaniv handles both sides of that equation, he evaluates the immigration consequences of every charge and potential disposition from the outset and works to structure resolutions that protect his clients’ immigration status and future eligibility for relief. He also advises lawful permanent residents and other noncitizens on how existing criminal history may affect naturalization, adjustment of status, and other immigration benefits.
Yaniv also has extensive experience as a civil defense attorney, litigating matters involving medical malpractice, premises liability, product liability, and complex business transactions. Among his notable results, he defended a corporate entity in a multi-million dollar product liability trial that ended in a verdict of no liability, and he represented a Florida university in a high-profile premises liability case arising from a double homicide. That background in high-stakes trial work continues to inform the preparation and rigor he brings to every case.
Outside the courtroom, Yaniv is an avid scuba diver and enjoys spending time with his family. A proud supporter of South Florida sports, he follows the Miami Heat, Florida Panthers, Inter Miami, and Miami Dolphins with enthusiasm, even when the Dolphins regularly disappoint him.
